The Devil Rides Out (1968) is a British horror film directed by Terence Fisher and adapted from Dennis Wheatley’s novel by Richard Matheson. Set in 1929 England, the film follows the aristocratic and knowledgeable Duc de Richleau as he uncovers a sinister occult conspiracy involving his young protégé. With the help of his steadfast friend, he embarks on a desperate mission to save the young man and a fellow initiate from the grip of a powerful satanic cult led by the enigmatic Mocata. As supernatural forces intensify, they must withstand terrifying rituals, unholy apparitions, and a battle of wills that could mean the difference between salvation and damnation. Known for its atmospheric tension and Christopher Lee’s commanding performance, The Devil Rides Out remains a standout in British horror cinema.
