In the post-apocalyptic world of 2293, the division of humanity into immortals, the Eternals, and mortals, the Brutals, sets the stage for "Zardoz." The Eternals lead a life of luxury within the confines of "the Vortex," relying on the Brutals to supply their sustenance. Zed, a Brutal Exterminator, propelled by curiosity, stows away in the stone idol Zardoz, leading to his capture within the Vortex.
